What travellers are saying
- ShipahoyahoyPortsmouth, UK566 contributionsVery easy to get to by bus from Grand Parade, Cork. About 30 minutes on the bus and only 2 Euros each way. Going on a fairly dull March day meant few other visitors around. Staff very friendly and helpful. Castle interesting but be aware of the steep spiral staircase to the top of the keep and the same going down. Fortunately a one way system. I didn't kiss the stone for hygiene reasons rather than the height. Lovely grounds. Staff in the café by the castle friendly. It was just warm enough to sit outside in the court yard. An enjoyable 3 hours. I would imagine the grounds are spectacular in the summer but also crowded.Written 12 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. But be aware that signs to the Gaol or moved to point in the wrong direction. I walked way out of my way because I followed a sign that was pointing away from the goal! Thank goodness for a local who redirected me. It is a pity that when I mentioned this at the ticket desk I was told "It happens often, nothing we can do." I too work in a museum and felt the reply should have been "Very sorry, it happens often. I shall get onto the council immediately and ask for the sign to be correctly positioned." Other than that, I though the two ladies greeting visitors on entering the gaol were welcoming, helpful and very enthusiastic. The goal interesting. The audio trail informative. As it was pouring with rain I didn't look round the grounds outside of the gaol. Well worth a visit.Written 12 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

She emigrated to England. The gentleman at the ticket desk could not have been more helpful. Thanks. My ancestors came from a poor background so I was expecting a small parish church and not this fabulously interesting cathedral, with so much history. Not only did I come across the font where my grandmother was baptised but also found on the First World War "Heroes Column" memorial the name of another relative. A surprise find was the lectern, which was destined for Lille France but didn't get there. A coincidence as my mother was from Lille. A very interesting Cathedral with helpful staff.Written 12 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Aoife F1 contributionHad a fantastic evening at the Cocktail class and Distillery Tour hosted by Niamh on Saturday. The evening was really fun and interesting and in a very chill and personal setting. The cocktails and drinks were superb. Would really recommend for anyone looking to do something different or special of an evening. Will definitely be booking into some of the other events in the future. Thanks to Niamh and the Rebel Distillery crew.Written 25 January 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- justssalterMemphis, TN14 contributionsPlan a half day here! I don’t know what I was thinking. With all my trip research, for some reason I thought the “Blarney Stone” was in the middle of some field. At the last minute, we took a detour here on our way back from Killarney to Dublin. We didn’t have much time and once I realized how much there was to see and do on premises, I was disappointed I hadn’t planned better. Be comfortable with tight, high, windy spaces if you want to kiss the stone. There’s still plenty to enjoy here if that’s not your cup of tea.Written 1 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JoeV314159Chicago, IL166 contributionsThis Church and tower is an interesting experience from several perspectives. You climb stairs to the level of the bell pulls where you can pull the ropes to play different tunes that ring out over the city. After you ring the bells, a unique opportunity, you get to climb the stairs of the tower. The climb includes passing through the level of the bell mechanism and is topped by an expansive view of the City of Cork. The view of the city enables you to appreciate the historic and economic significance of the city as you look over the old and new neighborhoods. You also get to spend time in the wonderful historic church itself. The experience brings new meaning and life to the wonderful Irish song and poem The Bells of Shandon by Francis Sylvester MahonyWritten 29 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brian M R2 contributionsBeautiful place very interesting tour the planetarium was cool but it’s like a bouncy castle and it was hard to hear what the tour guide was saying with the noise of the air compressor in the background besides that I thought it was a great educational tour and a very beautiful place I would highly recommend for anyone in an interest in history and science.Written 31 December 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
