My Husband's Great-Grandfather was a teacher on the island, and his Grandfather was born there. Be prepared for a climb onto the island, up a wet, slippery rock steps. If any of your party are elderly or frail don't chance it. Saying all that, it's a wonderful place to visit. go and visit the Blasket Island Centre on the mainland,... More

As you leave Dunquin travelling North there is a Blasket Islands Museum or Center operated by the Irish Government. It is a short distance down a minor roadway to the left and is signposted. It is fantastic and gives a great insight into those who lived on the islands and what the living conditions were like. They show an excellent... More

I wish I had read these very helpful reviews of the Blasket Island trip before going. We loved the outing and will always remember it but it wasn't easy. We had perfect weather, cool and sunny, but I doubt that as current, quite agile, 67 and 72 year olds, we will be able to do this in five years. We... More

We really enjoyed our trip to the Blaskets. We boarded our boat in Dunquinn, (Wear water proof clothing). On the Blaskets we were greeted by a guide who had amazing knowledge of the history of the island. I have been to many museums etc and been given many guided tours but this man was the best I have ever heard... More

went there with my parents on a whim while we were on the Dingle loop. Took one of the ferries to Blaskett Islands. This trip requires a dinghy ride to shore, no matter what company you go with. Be prepared for a day or a few hours. Bring water, snacks, sunscreen, etc. No facilities there, no toilets either. There is... More

I have been fortunate enough to visit Great Blasket on three occasions, and it never fails to delight me. Boats leave either from Dingle harbour, or there is the shorter 15-minute boat ride from Dunquin Pier. The latter is the journey I chose to make and this year (June 2008) it cost €30 return. There is also the option of... More

I ditto everything the previous review said. If you're on biking holiday, Dunquin is a only about 25 kilometers from Dingle and it's a very manageable, flat ride if you go around the souther part of the peninsula (going north takes you over a significant hill which requires some serious lungs). The Blasket Island Cultural Center is worth a peak... More

When travelling around the Dingle Peninsula, take the time to catch a ferry from Dunquin to the Great Blasket Island. These islands are now uninhabited, except by sheep, donkeys, hares, seals etc but were lived on until the 1950's by members of a hardy farming / fishing community. You can get off the ferry and wander among the ruins of... More
