From Wikipaedia: "The [Ceide Fields] site is the most extensive Stone Age site in the world and contains the oldest known field systems in the world". Along with being of huge historical significance, the Ceide Fields is stunningly beautiful with wives over extensive bogland, precipitous cliffs and sea stacks. The tour is interesting and informative. The visitor center is well... More

Besides its location the actual centre is worth the visit from the warm welcome that meets you to the spectacular video with haunting music to the history of the neolithic farms & the farm walk itself is just... If you want to see evidence of and learn about people who farmed in Ireland 5000 years ago this is the place to come - and if you want to stand beside cliffs that are 350 million years old, you can do that here as well. A fascinating place. There a guided walking tour (about 50 minutes) around the archeological... More

While visiting the beautiful countryside in Co. Mayo we purposely took a trip north to Ballycastle to visit the Ceide Fields. 100% Irish as I am I am embarrassed to admit that I was unaware of their existence and what effect they have made to our Irish heritage. The drive itself (coast road) to Ballycastle is one of the most... More

In the 1970's and 80's archaeological digs took place which... More
