Recently went to visit this site. It's beautifully maintained. We brought a pic nic, which we had down beside the Heli pad at the waterfront. There is a coffee shop with tables outside, which we prpb could have used. Toilets were a bit smelly but otherwise it was a perfect day. More

Beautiful place to wander around. They have done a good job balancing the tourist attraction pitfalls and allowed the natural beauty of the original site to shine. More

This is one trip that is well worth taking. This wonderful setting, alongside the Shannon River, is a window to our past. The ruins are well maintained and not modernised so that the centre still maintains that sense of the past. We were there on a particularly sunny day which added to the pleasure of strolling around the area. The... More

A bit difficult to get to and a bit out of the way but well worth the trouble. Beautiful monastery on the river. Loved strolling around the grounds- got some fantastic pictures. More

This is one of my favorite places to see when I'm in Ireland. I love to bring people here and see their reactions. The ruins are fantastic to see and photograph. Its amazing they are still standing as well as they are and the backdrop of the river is great. Its just a beautiful place to see. Being here as... More

November crossing the mid-section of Ireland it was bound to rain. Just a pleasant drizzle as we walked the grounds of a monastic settlement that endured for 15 centuries. So much contention over the centuries it enjoyed little peace, but the monks persevered until the penal times put them out. Why no town there now? Wish we could have stayed... More

This did indeed prove to be an excellent detour from the M6 from Dublin to Galway.Along a narrow country road we experienced the sights & smells of rural Ireland.- especially the smell of the peats. Informative exhibition complete with audio visual session on the history of Clonmacnoise.Pity that three of the crosses are now indoors-removed from the cemetery for preservation... More

This monastic site is certainly worth a visit, the interpretive centre gives an introduction to the history and details the struggles and effort of early settlements in Ireland. The setting on the river Shannon is lovely even on a wet day. Book a guided tour to enhance the experience. More
