- Yasmin12 contributionsWow!This was spectacular! The highlights tour was great, very informative; our guide was so thorough in her historical facts, it was entertaining and even pointed out Harry Potter scene locations! It was such a well rounded tour, highly recommend. The cathedral is incredible.Visited April 2023Travelled soloWritten 22 April 2023
- Lucy TIsle of Wight, United Kingdom295 contributionsMesmerised!Wow just incredible! Everywhere I looked I was just in awe! Entry is free but they do encourage you to make a donation which we did. There was a wedding taking place when we visited, but luckily it was just finishing and they soon opened up the rest of the cathedral to the public which was a relief as we would have missed so much of it otherwise. Such beautiful stain glassed windows and intricate details everywhere you look. Absolutely essential to visit if you’re in Gloucester!Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 April 2023

I was with my friend who was in a wheelchair and was met by a lovely man who brought communion to her rather than queue. - journeymaid48Fairport, New York1,091 contributionsA Beautiful Historic CathedralIt is impossible to do justice to this cathedral in a short visit. The unique architecture in the perpendicular style that is so evident in the cloisters make this one of the rarest of architectural gems in the country. The cathedral also houses the tomb of Robert of Normandy and Edward II as well as other prominent tombs of the clergy. The stained glass windows tell a story of heavenly hierarchy with the Clement of Rome showing the Holy Trinity at the top. There is a whispering gallery above the main floor. This is must see for anyone visiting Gloucester.Visited May 2023Written 11 May 2023
- Wayne GTroy, Michigan24 contributionsImpressive Building; Excellent ToursWell-organized reception and tour arrangements; on-site restaurant was very convenient, a real time-saver, and the food was quite good. 1000 year history. - LizGentry_1London, United Kingdom37 contributionsBest part of our trip to GloucesterAbsolutely stunning. We visited today as a family with two adults and a six year old. The cathedral is beautiful and obviously very well looked after! We found the information available very interesting and really enjoyed the cakes and drinks at the cafe. If you’re in the area this is a must see!Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 9 July 2023
- Francie RMerseyside, United Kingdom118 contributionsA must do!The cathedral is huge with lots of things to see despite being under building works (hence the four star as the loud bang noises ruined a bit the atmosphere), altough the best part is outside, which is famous for starring in Harry Potter. It really gives the sense of history and time passing by and could not believe it is all free when other cities charge exorbitant prices just to walk in. A must do if you are visiting Gloucester and I also suggest to just sit down for a bit and enjoy the amotsphere if you canVisited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 July 2023

One of the many great Cathedrals of England and full of history including the resting place of Edward II. We found the cloisters very interesting. Entry is free but there is a suggested donation of £5 on entry.

Just go.
If you're into history, architecture, religion, Harry Potter, just go. And even if you don't care about any of those, go.
It's an incredibly impressive building.
There's no words to describe it really, you just have to go see it.
It is wheelchair and pram accessible which is brilliant and standing in the same spot as the Harry Potter cast was just SO COOL.
There are services held throughout the day which you can join in, or just light at a candle and say your own silent prayer.
You just have to see for yourself.

It’s the most beautiful Cathedral with a wonderfully serene and peaceful atmosphere. I had the pleasure of going on 2 guided tours. The “Highlights” tour was fascinating. Nick was incredibly knowledgeable and delivered the information on a level that appealed to all, full of anecdotes, dates and a great sense of humour. It’s a real gem if you’re visiting the Cathedral and will give you facts and stories that are incredible and probably not easy to find independently. Eric guided the Crypt tour and again, was thoroughly engaging and full of amazing facts, he was open to questions and answered truthfully and knowledgeably. I regularly attend the Evensong services and the Cathedral Choir are amazing. It revitalises your heart, soul and mind! Whatever your interests or background I think this Cathedral has something for everybody. Dogs on leads are allowed too. The architecture is stunning, as are the stained glass windows and they tell so many stories and reveal the history of the Cathedral through the ages. The food in the café was delicious and the service very friendly and efficient considering it was busy. Don’t miss the chance to visit this magnificent building and make sure you factor in plenty of time to do a tour or two, a musical Evensong (free!) or just soak up the wonderful history and ambiance! 10/10

Fantastic experience which we only did because of the rain. Thank goodness for British weather! This is a cathedral not to be missed whether or not you are a Harry Potter fan (the cloisters).

We booked the Highlights Tour - easy to do at the reception desk. Our excellent guide Rod gave us a very full and enjoyable history tour of this fascinating and beautiful cathedral, and we were so glad we took the tour as interesting details are sometimes missed if just wandering around. I’d thoroughly recommend this visit !

I recently had the opportunity to go on a crypt tour and it was an incredibly unique and fascinating experience. The tour took me under the cathedral, which unless you are with a guide, is closed off to the general public.
The tour guide was also extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the subject, making the experience even more engaging and informative. They shared interesting facts and stories about the people buried in the crypts, as well as the significance of certain symbols carved into the stone and traditions held at the time.
It was great value and I can't wait to try out more tours at the cathedral.

A very beautiful cathedral. Set up to encourage both children and adults interaction and dressing up. It has displays of what different groups are doing in the area. And we were very fortunate to see and hear the rehearsal for the festival in the cathedral and the grounds.

Hi Chris,
Sorry for our delayed reply! There’s 8 spaces blue badge holders inside the Cathedral available on a first come first served basis.
Kind regards,

Hello,
There are many public car parks within reach of the Cathedral on foot. You can find more information on our website under Visit - Plan your Visit - Find us.
The Cathedral is also a 15 minute walk from the train and bus stations, or as Terence suggested, there is a great Park and Ride service to the city.
Do get in touch if you have any further questions.

Hello,
We have finished the work in and around the Cathedral! There's a little scaffolding up around the far East End but nothing major inside. If you have a specific date in mind when you would like to come, do get in touch and we can let you know what is going on that day :)
See you soon,
