Dont expect to see something in pristine condition and totally restored, Calke is as it was, virtually untouched, Dusty, jumbled and genuine, and this is what in my opinion makes it so good, You get to see how the family lived, The house really is interesting and with the gardens,tunnels and how they worked them gives a fasinating 'snapshot' of... The hall is very interesting and the gardens are very nice too, lots of nice walks around the grounds with a very good chance of seeing deer and other wildlife. A very good day out. More

We have been here loads of times from when kids were small. We are members so see it as a free day out. House is stuffed full of objects left by last owner and is like a rabbit warren. The grounds were very good. The house however has been maintained as the date the National Trust took over some 25 years ago and seemed not what we normally expect More

Calke abbey is great for a family. The playground is great and there is a lot of outdoor area. We have not been inside for a long time but the grounds are very good. The little church is very interesting More

The house looks as if it stood still since the last century or at least the last 60 years or so, since it became the National Trust Property.
