Everyone is welcome at Brockholes, whether you’re a naturalist or a beginner, we have something for you to enjoy and lots of chances for you to get close to nature! On the site of an old quarry, the Lancashire Wildlife Trust have used their expertise to create habitats for lots of different wildlife. You can take a stroll by the River Ribble, explore our woods or enjoy the lakes on site, which have all been specially designed to attract all kinds of wildlife for you to see! Our spectacular floating Visitor Village means that you are as close to nature as possible, and features a gift shop, local food store and a restaurant providing stunning views across the lake. You can also discover our interactive Welcome Centre and learn all about the wildlife that you could see on-site, discover the exciting play area and explore our network of walks and trails (including shorter ones for little legs). After exploring the reserve you can sit back and relax in our restaurant where you can enjoy the beautiful lake view with a coffee and a tasty treat or a long leisurely meal. The Nest, our Brockholes gift shop is brimming with an inspiring collection of gifts, jewellery, books, toys, arts & crafts and other exciting treasures to remind you of your day. We aim to buy with a 'conscience' and we do this because we want to, as well as knowing you want us to. The place is great - in a few years it will be interesting for kids, but right now with it still being quite new there doesn't seem a lot for kids but some swings and other similar play equiptment. The reserve itself can be a lovely peaceful walk. The staff in the cafe could have been a little friendlier. Having... More

We visited on Sunday, having driven past it numerous times like previous reviewers! What a fantastic, informative, interesting and thoroughly brilliant day out. We started with breakfast in their cafe, which was very nice and we sat watching the birds swooping over the water. The design of the reserve is brilliant, and we cannot wait to go back...maybe on a... More

We (Me, my wife, 2 kids 4 and 13) headed across Preston this Sunday to visit a place we knew only from the badger signs on the way to Blackburn. To say we were surprised is an understatement! I think it is amazing that so many people pass by here on the A59 and the M6 every day and never... More

I visited Brockholes today for the first time. What a lovely place. The cafe is also recommended. The site is a credit to those who developed it. The floating island that incorporates a visitor centre, gift shop, cafe, conference centre and information centre is wonderful. However, I was very concerned at how accessible the deep water is to young children.... More

New attraction just off the M6. Visitor centre had owls from rescue sanctuary on the day we visited. Good cafe and gift shop. Kids play area. Vast site - take binoculars to view the bird life. Free admission - car park charges More

The reserve offers lovely walks and views, with the gift shop and restaurant maximising profits, which is at the expence of captive clients, the fresh food could be of a higher standard with the baked potatoes being seen to be dry when cut and covered by the chosen filling and dry chips. It was generaly felt that the indoor breds... More

The centre of this attraction,- visitor centre, restaurant, shops and walkways float in the middle of one of the flooded gravel pits that make up these wetlands. Its a triumph of engineering and worth seeing in its own right. Then there's the coffee and cakes,- best in the area by far and much cheaper than the nearby hotels. You take... More
