Went on a group tour here Rabbi explained Jewish traditions and found it very interesting, not jewish myself but like to learn about other religions and customs. Manchester has a large jewish community mainly living in the Prestwich area, a suburb of Manchester.

This place seems to be maintained by old pensioners who have nothing better to do in their spare time, watched too much Blue Peter and want to make easy money with their amateur home made decorations.

We were interested in the social history of Manchester and visited the Jewish Museum. The place is run by willing and knowledgeable volunteers who talked to us about the exhibits and completely brought the place and the history of Judaism in Manchester to life - thank you!

On a rather desolate, semi-industrial road not far from Manchester City Centre stands the old Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue now the Manchester Jewish Museum (see photo).

The building itself is a gem. Here you can learn about the life and history of Britain's second largest jewish population. The same community is now being asked, at synagogue, to help fund this museum, as it could well face closure due to lack of funding.
