The free to enter Manchester Art Gallery is at the heart of the city centre. It actually occupies three buildings after its expansion in 2002. One building is the Grade I listed, the former Royal Manchester Institution. There are three floors and 21 rooms of art and design. Only spent about 30 minutes in the Manchester Art Gallery, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very interesting temporary exhibits. more

Art interests me at times but not this one. The staff made me feel uncomfortable, following you around everywhere like you were a criminal or something, not professional. Very boring to be honest. 1 and a half hour of my life wasted, which I will never get back. BOOOO! more

The Manchester City Art Gallery is a Mancucian delight-free with a splendid comprehensive collection of PreRaphaelite (Hunt,Millais,Ford Madox Brown) and Victorian (Lord Frederic Leighton, Albert Moore, Bourne-Jones) paintings. It also has a nice variety of British paintings (Turner, Etty, Gainesborough,Wilson). The Thomas Street area is good for those wanting to see contemporary art.
