The Museum is located at The Quays - Greater Manchester's waterfront destination. As a second thought after seeing the quays, It was free entry, and a charge for the viewing platform,, worth a quick look I suppose. But the Museum itself, was split into two main areas on the 1st floor, which had a exhbition on captivity and prison camps,... more

This place is one of the best museums outside of London and does everything possible to move away from the musty, boring exhibit-with-a-bit-of-text style museum. It's great for kids especially and they do try to bring it to life with the half hourly multimedia show when the museum just shows a massive multimedia show about the horrors of war. The... more

I do not enjoy trips to museums on the subject of war as it is not a topic that interests me. I went here due to pestering from my lovely fiance and was pleasantly surprised. the layout is interestiing and the information available is great. The big screen immersive shows are highly emotional and great for getting an experience of... more

Remeber old boring museums, everything in glass cases that you can look but not touch! Twenty minutes and me and my 11 year old had enough. They could have done so much more than just 4 large static displays, and about 15 cases of items. A three storey building with 1 usefull floor. Really disapointing. The only reason for the... more

Entry to the museum is free, and at that point it is worth a visit if you have a spare few hours. However, I doubt I would visit if I had to pay to get in. One is left with the impression that Imperial War Museum North is a random collection of artefacts that they did not have room for... more

Having a few hours to fill in Manchester we considered visiting the War Museum. When I looked at the reviews on here though, I nearly didn't bother. But ignore them. This was a great place to visit. My 13 year old son absolutely loved it. There was plenty to see and I especially liked the very personal way in which... more

I did not know what to expect but found the way it was set out made it really interesting to go round with each area having a separate title. The most effective part was the hourly presentations which on differing topics on the effects of war - the whole museum was darkened and it covered the whole walls with sound... more

First impressions on arrival were of a poorly promoted site. The building certainly looked impressive, but, arriving by taxi we felt as if we had arrived at the tradesman’s entrance. Whilst I’m sure there is signage there, it did not seem prominent to us. On entry, the lift to the viewing platform looked exciting, but little explanation was given as... more

Sorry, it really didn't work for me. A huge ugly architectural monstrosity with very little to see. The inside is apparently difficult to get around, with uneven floors and concealed entrances, so that people don't feel "comfortable" when thinking about war. I'm afraid the point is lost completely and much more attention should have been given to the actual content:... more

I had great anticipation of visiting this museum, but I was VERY disappointed. The only saving grace was the free admission and the walk there across the bridge from The Lowry. There is not much there to see, a couple of big exhibits, a plane and a tank!! The shows are very odd! A word of warning - don't take... more
