I have visited this exhibition several times over the years and the authorities have improved its presentation - its all about the Isenheim altarpiece or polyptych (paintings divided into panels ) which was commissioned around 1500. No matter what your faith may be this presentation is breathtaking More

Colmar is a great little town to visit and the Unterlinden really was worth going for just by itself. Great location, fantastic building, very good pieces inside, educational and good information a real treat. And best of all, it wasn't too busy, can take it at a relaxing pace. More

The Musee d'unterlinden is situated in a former monastery right in the center of Colmar. You walk around a big square and can see several exhibition rooms on the ground floor, where medieval art is displayed, on the first floor you'll find more folk and contemporary art One of the biggest attractions of the museum is the so - called... This museum is listed in the 1,000 places to see before you die, and they're right about it. The medieval & Renaissance artwork is magnificent, but the little Roman bits that you don't hear so much about are also wonderful. This is a very peaceful museum, housed in a former monastery. There's a bit of everything -- including massive wooden... More

The painings were beautiful, although under restoration when I was there...I suppose that is a good thing though. There is an interesting museum within as well. It is worth the visit if you are in Colmar. More

I'm not a huge museum visitor, but love this place more and more every time I visit. The the church artifacts (particularly the Issenheim Altarpiece) are gorgeous beyond description. Do yourself a favor and snag one of the audio self-guided tour devices, which are free with the admission charge of 8 euro. More

The museum had an audio tour that explained the meaning behind the huge art pieces. Several pieces were being restored while we were there. The setting is a monastery with beautiful architecture and there are rooms where huge wine presses and barrels were still present. More
