We were told by our friend to visit the place during our trip to Bordeaux since it has nice view of from the top and it's the highest sand dune in Europe. It's free unless you're driving then you just need to pay the parking (~ 4 euro for couple hours). It took us less than an hour from Bordeaux,... More

Cheap and easy to get to: jump on Bus 1 from the Arcachon Station for 1 euro. Or drive there and pay for parking. Climbing this huge dune is not easy but you will be rewarded with great views in all directions - lush forest and glittering water. A small cluster of shops at the bottom offer food, drinks, postcards... More

This is the most wonderful attraction - a huge set of dunes that lead down to the seashore. It's a really hard climb up the dunes, and is easiest done in bare feet (unless the sand is just too hot, in which case sandals are best). Don't take more in your rucksack than you'll need, but don't skimp on the... More

Arrived here on a very hot day in early August, the car park was packed and it took 20 minutes to find a space and the area around the car park is full of shops selling the usual buckets, spades and tourist stuff along with some good little cafe's. Once you get past all that its a stunning piece of... More

We visited this "must" after staying 1 night in the seasidetown Arcachon nearby It's really OK for family- and (school-)groups. They come in hordes messuring to the gigantic carpark nearby. There are many facilities on the premises. For me raised at the Dutch Nordseecoast I wasn't very impressed actually but it's worth to visit and climb it. The view from... More

A short bus ride out of Arcachon there is a large naturally occurring pile of sand called Dune du Pyla ( Pylat). Catch the #1 bus in front of the Arcachon train station for 1 euro and 15 minutes later you get dropped off at the front gate of the park. Just walk straight back and after a little walk... More
