The climb to the cave is 400m. uphill to the entrance. Groups of 12 only let in each visit of 40 minutes. We were kept waiting in the rain for the guide to appeared late. No cameras or bags allowed, which is understandable. Despite one third of the group speaking only English, the guide made it plain (in English) that... More

Prehistoric cave art dating back 13,000 years. Grotte du Font de Gaume is one of the few caves that still allows visitors and one of only three that have polychrome drawings of bison, mammoth, and deer. The drawings are extremely well preserved, and stunning! We went to Lascaux II later in the day, and were very disappointed - they’ve done... More

... if you can get tickets. We were lucky that on the off-chance there were tickets available. This is an easy cave to visit (we've visited many in France and Spain) and the team are informative and friendly. More

You will not want to miss this. Reservations must be made in advance but it is the last of the true orginal caves that you can still visit. You do not want to miss this as you never know when it will be shut off from the public. They keep the groups small so plan ahead. More

This was one of the most interesting sites to visit. The walk up to the entrance of the cave is long and uphill so you have to be in pretty good physical shape just to do that. And if you are claustophobic don't even think about visiting. There are some very narrow passages to pass through in the cave. We... More

Like I said, it would be one of the biggest mistakes to not come here during a visit to this region. Great for the whole family! Best to reserve in advance as the lines can get pretty long. More

We signed up well in advance for the English tour, and were glad we had, as we watched many being turned away that morning because tickets had been sold out. The cave art is simply amazing, though I doubt I would have been able to recognize the shapes if the guide had not pointed out the features of each animal.... More

The cave itself is more of a narrow passage with the drawings hightlighted by the guide. What could have been an excellent experience was made disappointing by a guide who was more interesed in where we were standing and getting us in and out in the allotted time than in proving information on the prehistoric cave drawings. We had purchased... More
