Finding a carpark close by on a sunny (25 deg.) Sunday isn't easy. Still the walk along main street is interesting. An inclined (short) road leads to the entrance of the Musee. Once inside the foyer, the enormity of the place starts to take over. To think that the building has been hewn from the cliff faces and blends in... More

We were lucky enough to take advantage of one of the free evenings at the Museum. The museum displays are well presented and it is well worth to combine a visit to the museum with visits to the numerous grottes, as it helps add depth to the experience of prehistory in the Dordogne. More

There are huge numbers of artifacts here regarding the history of humankind in the valley. Worth a visit and look closely for some excellent materials among the huge selection. More

The museum was spacious and easy to move around - staff were helpful in pointing out english guides to help us find our way around. Interestingly, we quite liked some of the videos that they had showing how prehistoric man made their tools. Worth popping in while you are in town. More

When you have covered all floors of the museum and your brain is hurting from all the things that you have seen and learned, walk along the river cut cliff face at the top and ponder how life was all those years ago, while looking down over the village toward the river Vezere below. I would suggest that you give... More

This museum is a must see if you are in the area exploring the caves and pre-historic man. Plan to spend about 2 hours. More

Especially since the museum has a wealth of similar specimens. Passing through at a medium pace and watching videos throughout will be enough to get you thinking in terms of prehistoric man. The museum closes at 6...it's a good way to end the day, as it's not crowded at this time. More

Don't miss this museum, very modern with good display space and very interesting videos which run constantly showing how flints were knapped, reindeer harpoons made and small statuettes were carved. Only in French which is a pity. Lighting is not as good as it could be in places, laminated cards written in English are available to read in the different... More
