At this reproduction of Lascaux, the paintings are said to be within 5 mm of the originals. It is truly superb, with wonderful drawings of bulls, bison, horses, ibex, among others including a mystery animal and some symbols of unknown intent. The walls of the cave are curved as in the original cave and in the copy you are not... More

Buy tickets at the billeterie in town. The tour is very good, very clear, in either English or French. More

Although this is a reproduction of an area of the Lascaux Cave, it is excellent. The tour was in French but with our daughter along as a translator, I didn't think to ask about a headset. The group was not large but there were a number of children who paid close attention to the guide who obviously enjoyed his job.... More

The cave itself is a masterpiece but in summer you have to book well in advance and it can be crowded. The cave is a replica but it is well worth seeing even if it is a bit cramped. More

Lascaux II, the reproduction of the UNESCO World Heritage Paleolithic site, was marvelous - took 11 years from start to finish. Except for the even floor, one could believe you were in the original caves. The guided tour of 40 minutes explained so much about how the originals were drawn: manganese oxide for the black, iron oxide for red, plus... More

OK. It's a famous tourist attraction with lots of visitors and groups in line trouping through and all that. I hate these things and refused for years to go to Disneyland till my kids forced my hand. But if you let all that drop away there is something truly amazing and unique at its core, and I would choose to... More

We bought out tickets in Montignac at around 10.00am. The tickets can be booked from a small tourist office under the town hall area. There is some free municipal parking close to this. You cannot buy tickets at the site itself. We booked tickets for an English Language tour at 11.30am. The location, which is short drive from Montignac is... More

I think it is a bit overrated this tour. It's to touristic. The group we were in (Dutch speaking people )were more than half filled with children. The tour was more based on the children then on the adults, although i doubt of any of the children knew were they were at. Then ; why buying the tickets in Montignac.... More

I had not expected to be so impressed with what is essentially a copy. Tickets are only available from the tourist office in Montignac and are best bought a day or two in advance, though some tickets for the same day were available when we called. If you approach from the north the signs, rather stupidly, send you through Montignac... More
