if you think Stonehenge was great, Carnac has the largest display of megalithic stones in Europe! Over 3,000 stones stretch for several miles along the countryside. Truly amazing. More

Once again, a very popular attraction, but once you're there, you see why people gravitate to this; visually stunning and begging the question, "why did they do it?" And just keep a lookout as you're driving around.... there are more smaller sites dotted all over this part of France! Trés magnifique!! More

No public toilets, so after a long walk up the hill, we had to make a pretty quick retreat back to the car. More

Something that has to be done and the number of the stones are amazing; we paid 6 euros each to go in which was a bit of waste as it was an hour lecture in french and my french was not up to it so might have been better to walk around the walls enclsoing the menhirs. It would have... More

Enjoyed this experience immensely. Unfortunately no guided tour was available during our visit, so we grabbed a map from the Tourism Office and made our way to the sites by ourselves. Unless you're in the area for at least a full day, I would recommend skipping the museum and would suggest heading straight for the alignments before the hoards of... More

The scale of this attraction is almost beyond comprehension when you consider when it was constructed. The centre attached is also definitely worth a look. The only pity is that you cannot walk around the stones. More

The alignments are amazing with rows of stones stretching as far as the eye can see. The stones come in all shapes and sizes. Most people head to Maison des Megaliths where there is lots of parking and entry is free. There is a video presentation and the shop has a good selection of books with several in English (although... More

The major site is fabulous but it is well worth wandering beyond into some of the smaller areas where you have direct access to wandering among the menhirs - look at the map of them and expore widely leaving a full day at least. We took 5 hour days there to wander. More
