It's hard to imagine a structure of this magnitude being built out of stone 800 years ago. If you think of Auxerre as a relatively small town, the existence of the majestic cathedral is even more confounding. Been there twice in the last 6 months or so. We stayed on a Dutch barge moored on the Yon which part owned by a member of the family. Auxerre generally is enchanting and the people very friendly. In Gothic style, it is renowned for its three doorways with remarkable bas-reliefs. The stained glass windows in the choir and the apsidal chapel are among the finest in France. More
