This museum has much to recommend it, especially its top floor settings of more modern art. I was disappointed not to be able to see the significant Flemish collection they have, as they have closed those rooms during renovations. View the top floor first, as they also close that floor at 11:00 a.m.

I have visited this museum twice on 2 different visits to Dijon.

Although they are currently renovating part of the Ducal Palace that the museum is in, there's still plenty to see of French (mainly) painting and sculpture, as well as some archaoelogical items and getting into the rooms of the palace. This museum made me aware of importance of Burgundy in history of France. Burgundy was major player for centuries in history of France. A visit here makes you want to check out history books or at least a Wiki search!

Even though the area around it is in a state of repair, the museum was wonderful. We especially liked the medieval carved mourning figures and were sorry to learn that the sarcophagi were not able to be visited at this time. The modern art was also wonderful We spent about 2 hours here and would highly recommend it.

The museum is being renovated, until 2014 I thought. Entrance to the museum is now free and you can still enjoy lovely art. And you can see some nice architecture of the museum, but most parts are under reconstruction. A hideous modern part is being added (at least, from the model it looks hideous...).

It is located in a building that used to be a ducal residence and was turned it into a Fine Arts Museum. The interior in some of the rooms is amazing and there are so many paintings and sculputures. The floors themselves were a work of art. It was in our opinion the best thing in this city.
