The view from the chateau is the main draw, and it's definitely beautiful. Like some of the others we visited, though, the chateau itself is a pretty short tour that only goes through a small set of rooms, which are not filled with original furniture. Not one of my top picks. More

Everyone has heard of FountaineBleau. Everyone has been to Versailles. But who knew that Chateau Amboise was also home to many of the Kings of France? Chateau d'Amboise is in very good condition and well worth the trip. Prior to this trip, Chenanceau had been my favorite Chateau. For very different reasons, Amboise has at least matched it. My trip... More

Very interesting. This was the first chateau of our visit. The view across the river is very nice. We saw 4 other chateaux in the Loire valley, and I liked them better. What I remember most about this chateau is walking down the spiraling Heurtault Tower. More

During the French religious wars, rebels against the king were hung out the windows after being found guilty of treason. The castle itself is superb, and furnished fully in French Renaissance style, but the real gem is the small chapel on the grounds where Leonardo is... More

Although not the most impresive in the Loire Valley, Chateau d'amboise is well preserved and has stunning views on the Loire. definitely a must if you are in the area. More

Unlike many chateau of the Loire this was a royal residence, so lots of historical connections, Da Vinci most prominently. The view is lovely, the town picturesque. The access to the castle involves a climb up a steep road. This combined with stairs inside may create a challenge for anyone not fit. We were told that in summer there are... More

The castle was pretty too by looking from the small road from the river. More
