This huge chateau complex shows architectural development across several centuries. The most impressive part is the spiral staircase. Because it wasn't built all at once, there is no harmony or "prettiness" as compared to other Loire Valley chateaux.

There is so much to see here, all of it great. The 13th century hall of the Estates General and Catherine de Medici's study alone make Blois worth a visit, but there are also royal bedrooms, the gorgeous exterior spiral staircase and so much more. 7 kings and 10 queens lived here so you can imagine that each left their trace!
Some areas have been beautifully restored.
A lot of events happening this summer so just check it out.

I arrived to Blois by train, about 9am. There's not so much information for tourists around the station but there are enough signs showing the way to the castle and the tourism office, so it was not so difficult to find my way. Follow those signs thoroughly.
However, the castle seemed to be closed, so I tried the tourism info...

The castle is a pure beauty, a major milestone of French history, and a summary of French architectural styles with parts from all periods (classical, renaissance, mediaeval).
Note: The decoration has been re-invented in the 19th century, don't look for authenticity in this.

If you happen to stay in Blois for one day, this is a must-visit, however we suggest that you research what you are going to see and prepare in advance, since there is not much information available on site.
