Loved Villandry - the gardens are the nicest in all the chateau we saw and are the main reason for visiting. The chateau itself if pleasant but the interior is nothing special. A pleasant and interesting, if not spectacular, Loire château but the gardens are amazing. Even for those just interested in the gardens, it is worth taking the (self-guided) tour of the house for the views over the grounds. Very reasonably priced (e.g. adults 6 Euros for gardens, 9 for gardens & house) as, indeed, are the obligatory garden shop and... more
The chateau itself is well preserved and furnished - worth a visit by itself on your 'B' list of Loire chateaux. But the gardens!
