This was our favourite champagne and tour. It wasn't over the top but really interesting and they showed us the bottling and how the wine got brought in and turned into champagne. The tower was great too - amazing views of Epernay. Had to book - as it was busy and this was September! more
Very interesting visit if you don't know anything about making champagne. The tour guide was very friendly and open to all questions. The cost is reasonable 8 euros per person with one glass of champagne afterwards. If you have a chance, it is better to visit cellars during the week while people are still working in the production line. Plus... more
Besides having the tallest tower and symbol of Epernay (which you can climb for a fine view of the region), De Castellane has a cellar tour that is quite unique amongst the bigger champagne houses. we were in Epernay in September 2008. we visited Castellane after doing the Moet tour. these 2 tours had some of the same info, but the Castellane tour wasn't so much about the hype. we got a solid explanation of how champagne is made, saw some of the huge stainless steel tanks that the fermentation happens in, walked the cellars... more
This tour was definately one of the best ones in the region. It was a little different to the others and is definately worth a visit - you are able to see all the machinery and huge vats which are used during the champagne process.
