One of our friends suggested we try this as an alternative to the touristy type tours, and I have to admit in the end it was very lovely. It was off the beaten track and was very relaxing, we had a sunny day and brought chocolate croissants and coffee and drifted through the locks, perfect for after you've seen all... More

The company is called "Canauxrama", a less well known river tour in Paris which takes you to the backwaters of the Canal System in Paris. Features the underground Industrial section of the Canal St. Martin. you can either take the Canauxrama in Bastille (metro stop Bastille), or Jaures. It's 16€ per person and honestly I enjoyed the 30 minutes of... More

Took the two and a half hour canal and Seine trip from Parc De La Villette to the Museum D'Orsay. I can honestly say it was the most boring bit of my three day stay in Paris, Park De La Villette is quite interesting and it's worth going early to explore it. The museum at the other end is also... The Canal St-Martin area has become the trendy place to recommend (at least according to the guidebooks and Web sites). We visited on a cool, sunny Saturday and saw more joggers than any other place in Paris. We also saw a lot of young families enjoying a Saturday stroll. I can imagine living in this area and really enjoying it... More

We took the Canauxrama boat ride on the Canal on a pleasant spring afternoon. Got to see parts of the city we probably wouldn't have had the time to walk, from the Parc de la Violette in the 19e to the Bastille. Pass through 4 locks on the way. They offer a 60+ discount as well. More

I've heard people praise the canal for being a romantic place to stroll or picnic. On my experience (having visited many times, but for running) it seems not very attractive and quite dirty and smelly. There are some cafes aongside, but these are separated from the canal by a fairly busy road and are on very narrow pavements so dn't... More

I had a IS project in the area for about 3 months. The place has slowly been cleaned up and a walk along the canal is very pretty in Spring, especially if it is sunny. More

Went because the tour book said how great the area is with cafes and boutiques etc - it was terrible with graffiti on the buildings and no decent places to shelter from the rain. One cafe - Cafe Prune - might be worth a look - we just headed off somewhere else. More
