Overshadowed by nearby Pantheon, this often-overlooked church is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. It is a very unusual church, both inside and outside.

If you're in the neighborhood of the Pantheon, take the time to visit its smaller but no less beautiful neighbor with what looks like a dark purple door -- the St.-Etienne-de-Mont. It contains the shrine of St. Genevieve and the tomb of Blaise Pascal. It has a beautiful rood screen with winding stairs at the apse.

After visiting this beautiful church behind the Pantheon, we took the curving back street down to the Seine. Looked back at St. Etienne and realized that those were the steps where Owen Wilson sat to go back in time in the movie.

This is a very elegant church with unique architectural features. The most beautiful feature is the intricately carved double stair arch which separates the altar from the congregation. The stained glass, carved wooden pulpit, and huge pipe organ are other beautiful treasures. There are several chapels along the sides of the church, including a shrine containing relics of St. Genevieve....

We stumbled upon this church after visiting the Pantheon. It's a very charming and beautiful building inside and out. It was not busy and entrance is free. They were pretty strict here upon entrance that women had shoulders covered.
Would definately recommend a short visit, it took us under an hour to look through this church.

I almost missed seeing it because i hadn't heard about it. But my friends were visiting the Pantheon and i had to wait for them. While waiting i browsed through my travel guide book and there was a small note about the circling stairs in this church. So i went to see the church while they were inside the Pantheon....

Generally speaking, a smaller but more personal church experience. It is a ‘working’ church so the hours are a bit sporadic around lunch but has reasonable hours of operation. The major features are the usual assortment of historical statues of stained glass. As mentioned above, it is a bit more obscure so it isn’t as crowded as the Notre Dame...

St. Etienne-du-Mont is just behind the Pantheon. It has stained glass windows that in my opinion rival Ste. Chapelle for color, though not for detail. There is an original filigree stone rood screen with two spiral staircases. There is also a small chapel dedicated to Ste Genevieve, the patron saint of Paris. I love this little church. http://kunmr2.chem.ukans.edu/~dave/pages/steg1.htm

Paris is a city of fabulous churches, but Ste. Etienne-du-Mont , located near the Sorbonne, was a real surprise. Recently cleaned and renovated, it startled with its archtecture and detail. Most noteworthy is its rood, exquisitely detailed and quite unusual. Also, a small neogothic chapel is amazingly detailed and quite beautiful. If you like to visit churches, this one is...
