This cemetery provides a respite in the midst of a bustling area. Although it is a little confusing to navigate, it is a pleasure just to wander and encounter the unexpected. We went primarily to honor the memory of Truffaut and Berlioz (which we did) and ended up caught up in the midst of a processional for an actual funeral!... More

Beautiful long walk from montmartre down to the cemetery, and cemetery itself is a piece of art. Most notably the grave of Dalida and her psychologist. More

Don't miss it it is educational and inspirational! We looked at it in June 2008. Stay at the Citidine hotel in Rachel Avenue ... so close and so inexpensive! More

I loved this cemetery, it was beautiful but it was quite a maze and we did get lost in it. Not that we minded! Make sure you pick up a map at the entrance. More

This was well worth the walk - we were completely taken aback by the whole experience - so much history, care and attention taken over one's final resting place. A place of reflection. Once in it - it felt like a maze - difficult to get out of so we had to retrace our steps back to the beginning. There... More

You can pick up a map from the very nice man just inside the front gate to the left. There was no charge! If you're looking for someone in particular it's worth stopping. The map, as with all cemetery maps, is open to... well... 'interpretation'. Take the locations as 'vague hints' rather than try to apply actual map reading skills.... More

As a genealogical hobbyist, and general lover of history and all things morbid, cemeteries are a must-do when I'm travelling. In no other place can you really get a good feel for the kind of people that live and lived in any given location. Paris is cemetery lovers dream, with four important parks that offer an impressive array of statuary... More

On our third visit to Paris, our hotel was literally next to the cemetery. Having seen most of the traditional "sights", we decided to spend some time looking at the this slice of ex-living history. Stretching under a raised roadway and covering acres, this is a sanctuary from the more frenetic parts of Paris. Quiet, contemplative and squeezed full with... More
