I never would have known about this gem were it not for my French seatmate on my flight to Paris. We somehow got on the subject of Lafayette (little known fact: the NYC parade honoring Lafayette is to this day the largest parade in NYC history) and after checking into my hotel, this was the first place I went. The... More

It is a very interesting historical sidetrip from the normal Paris sites to visit Picpus Cemetery, containing the Marquis de Lafayette's tomb and mass graves of victims of the French Revolutions's guillotine. To get to the cemetery take the Metro (or RER) to either the Nation or Picpus stops. The neighborhood maps at the Metro stations will show where the... More

My husband is a Revolutionary War buff and so we organized to visit Gen La Fayette's grave in Picpus. It was an adventure just to find it. With my broken French and passerbys broken English we finally worked out that the cemetary was behind a large red door that led into a quaint courtyard surrounded by small villas. There was... More

A must see for any American that appreciates how much our history is shared with France. It was extremely moving to see a plaque declaring the Marquis de Lafayette "friend to George Washington." I read that dirt from the battlefields he fought on in the colonies was brought over to bury him with. This was one of many examples of... More

We finally made it to Paris and our visit was fabulous. The French people were very kind and gracious. As a kid and history buff, I always wanted to visit General Lafayette's grave. My mom and I brought flowers for General and Madame Lafayette and easily found #35 Rue Picpus. The cemetery is listed as closed in September online, but... More

We visited the grave of General Lafayette, a great hero from the American Revolution, just this past week. The cemetery itself was one of the most serene spots that we found during our entire 10 days in Paris. Besides the grave of a great Revolutionary War hero, you will also see the mass graves of victims of "The Terror" which... More

The Marquis de Lafayette's tomb in the little Picpus Cemetery in the 12th Arrondissement is well worth seeking. We found both the setting and the experience quite moving, especially on a cloudy winter day. A charming custodian lets you in to the actual cemetery (his door is just inside the street gate, which itself is identified only by a single,... More

Seeing the US flag from a distance in the graveyard is a really choice experience! One that I will never forget. A little on the hard side to find. Mike [--] More

Having read the two previous reviews, my husband and I set out to visit the Cimetiere de Picpus and the grave of the Marquis de Lafayette. We found the big wooden doors that give entry to the courtyard from the Rue Picpus with no trouble. When we entered, there was a sign to the left that said the cemetery was... More

If you love history once in awhile you come to a place that screams authenticity and this is one of those places. I came here as on a group tour with my church. The stop was to pray at the graves of the 16 Carmelite nuns that were killed during the reign of terror. These women died praying that the... More
