I live in Europe and see plenty of churches and cathedrals, so this was not such an impressive experience for me. Still, the grounds are lovey and it has great history. I would not travel far just to see the abbey, but if you are in the area its worth a visit. More

An example of an excellently maintained property in private hands - a very beautiful building and the tour was excellent, conducted by a clear speaking, knowledgeable tour guide. The tour is mandatory and there is no lingering to absorb a sense of history or atmosphere. A word of warning to those hoping for a meal at the restaurant - if... More

We enjoyed the visit - but the tour is only in French. The audio did not match what the tour guide was saying!! THe paper guide was scantin information. A bit boring at times for non French speakers. Fantastic place and well preserved, can be chilly first thing in the morning, bring a coat to wear in the church. More

Unfortunately the day we went to the Abbaye it was -7C with a wind chill that probably took it down to about -15C. I think on a better day I would have really enjoyed and appreciated this historical site. You can only see this location via guided tours (which are conducted only in French) but there are handheld audio devices... More

Did you know that there used to be two popes at the same time? This used to be the seat of one of them. What a journey into and discovery of history. More

Wonderful place to visit. Beautiful and charming, surrounded by hills, you can take a little trek (20min) to the cross where you have an amazing view of the surrounding castles and hills. More

We have visited this area three times, but had not yet gone to Fontfroide thinking it would be a bit staid for our young daughter. We decided to visit this past summer and were floored by the utter gorgeousness of the place. We are not religious, but the abbey has an such a peaceful and holy atmosphere that even our... More
