The Chateau Fort sits high above the city of Lourdes. Charlemagne laid siege to it in 778, could not take the castle but through a miracle the ruler who held the castle converted to Christianity and surrendered it to him. We went to Lourdes to visit the Sanctuary and as long as we were there decided to visit the Fort. It was a very good decision. The Fort is really an amazing place. Great views from the top but not sure it was worth the charge in! My son loves any kind of historical sites or museums he enjoyed it. More

While we were in Lourdes we were enchanted by the huge castle at the top of the hill. It is worth the 5 Euros per person. Lots of stairs to climb or YOU CAN RIDE THE ELEVATOR. Awesome views from the top. Great history, Lots of antique furniture, equipment, tools. etc. Super place to visit. More

If you are visiting Lourdes on a pilgrimage or just visiting the town do try and make a little time to visit the 8th Century Château fort de Lourdes perched up above the town.
