The Musee des Augustins is a medieval museum in the center of Toulouse. There are many fine artifacts. There is also a surprise, Notre Dame de Grasse. This Madonna and child have been restored to their original color. It is unique in that the infant faces in an opposite direction from the Virgin Mary. The proportions and detail of the... More

This is truly a great experience for those wanting a survey of Toulouse history through its art over the millennia as well as locating its long-lived part in overall French culture and history. The other interesting point is that it is not much younger than the Louvre in Paris. The 12th century, Romanesque capitals derive variously from other famous buildings... More

So much to see - highlights for me were the row of gargoyles in the cloister, the pink-orange vaulted roof where the Romanesque capitals were displayed, huge spectacular paintings of battles, the statues on the Darcy staircase, the 12-13C inscribed tablets - a bargain for 3 Euros entrance fee More

This museum is worth visiting just to enjoy the peaceful garden in amongst the cloisters of the ex-monastery... interesting artworks too. More

Free entry on the first Sunday of each month (like many Toulousian museums). Lots of 12th century onwards sculpture and art set out in a monastery of similar period. Well worth an hour or two. More

We loved this museum. The space itself is beautiful since it is an old convent. There is a good variety of art (sculptures, paintings, medieval religious statues) and nice explanations of the pieces, though mostly in French. It is a two-minute walk from the magnificent St. Etienne cathedral, so it's nice to do the two back-to-back. I would recommend about... More

There is not much to see hear if you plan a 3 hour visit, but if you have a spare hour, the paintings, internal architecture and scuptures were interesting. More

This is in the best tradition of spacious French museums, some of which are outstanding. For anyone interested in Romanesque sculpture, this is a must - and the only reason to divert from Moissac to Toulouse. However, for those many who are not acquainted with the incredible art-movement of the 11th and 12th centuries known as 'The Romanesque', much of... More
