Not your everyday beach trip! And these beaches are HUGE, like 1/4 mile wide. To think men had to come ashore, run 1/4 mile on open ground up the sandy bank walls all the while under continuous fire from hardened German machine gun positions seems unfathomable. The bravery exuded by every man on D-Day is painfully evident when you stand...

A gorgeous piece of coastline holds compelling treatment of the place in history it commands. Various museums, monuments, memorials, and cemeteries dot the area, and the main nationalities which were involved take obvious pride in their offerings. All very moving and filled with information and stories. This visit marks one of the highlights of any of my travels.

We had the very great pleasure of utilizing the services of Pierre Doublet at Cab Tour Services twice during our Normandy stay. The first occasion was a visit to Mont Saint Michel and the second was to the beaches of the D-Day landings. We recommend Pierre's services without hesitation. Not only his he well informed and entertaining (our children of...

We spent 4 days and three nights in the Normandy region of France touring the D-day beaches. Beautiful area and moving history. Every quaint little town it seemed had it's own museum. No language barrier as nearly all signs, menus etc are also in English. The American cemetery near Omaha was really something. So many Unknowns Soldiers; "Known only to...

Take the time to see the beaches and the American cemetary.
Try to get one of the local expert guides who will describe what it was like for the locals during this period.
Also go to the museum in Caen if you have the time.
What looks so peaceful now was a key place and time in history.

We did a fifteen day driving tour of France starting in Nice to Avignon to Brittany to Normandy, and back to Nice with a stop in the Jura region, avoiding Paris as we had been there before. Everything is scenic and historical in France. Small towns centuries old with narrow winding streets and sidewalk cafes. Going to the 'market', a...

We were on an Oceania cruise.
We contracted with NST for both Normandy and St. Malo/MSM and were fortunate to have Guy as our guide for both.
Our first positive impression was that we unexpectedly docked at Le Havre instead of Honfleur and you already had knowledge of the change and met us there.
Guy was informative, communicates in English...

We were with a group of 6 others from a cruise docked in Cherbourg. Julian Vernon was our guide for the day, and we could not have asked for a more knowledgeable and respectful guide. We visited Omaha Beach, the American Cemetery, Longues-Sur-Mer, Ste-Mere-Eglise, Pointe du Hoc, and Carentan.
The tour was very moving, and the immensity of the undertaking...

Despite some preparation (reading "The Longest Day - Ryan, for eg.), I was unprepared for the very emotional response to this visit. The Museum, superb, the American, British and German Cemeteries, each different and very moving, and the still scarred landing beaches, all very clearly portrayed the struggle. We had a terrific guide, Pierre Doublet, who continues to be awestruck...
