The Museum would be better fitting out at one of the beaches, but instead is tucked inside a mix-use office park and industrial center on the outskirts of Caen. The Museum is more of a money-making enterprise than it is a fact-based experience in history. It's not a Museum, it's an "experience" - and that's not a good thing. The... more

We started our day trip to Normandy in the Memorial of Caen museum and were not dissappointed. It is a couple hours from Paris and car parking was just outside the museum and free. The first lot was full so we pulled into the grassy overflow parking without problem. The displays and artifacts were first rate and my kids were... more

At 16E50, see everything here including all the films and war footage. Not as dramatic as the Imperial War museum in London or logical as the Musee of Armee in Paris. I really enjoyed the Phoney war and German occupation segments. Especially moving once you get out to the beaches to fully understand what occurred there. But see it all... more

I was thinking of visiting this musuem to learn about the Normandy landings and Caen, but there is almost nothing covered about these subjects. Instead, there is a haphazardly organised tour through WW1/2 and the Cold war, almost schizophrenic and layout and progression. It seems the creators had some areas they were very interested in (Manhatten project for instance), and... more

I found caen memmorial museum, to be pitied. It has cheap items in flamboyant displays, you must pass the gift shop and restaurant three times to see the main exibits. They leave out things like France in vietnam or France in Algeria. For twenty dollars go have a good lunch. more

Was here in 2004 for the 60th anniversary festivities. Saw all the major sites and areas most have heard of. I had never heard of this museum/memorial and was blown away. Throughout the walking tour of history including many artifacts, visuals, special effects, etc... I thought I was on a a real-life historical trip only Disney could have dreamed up.... more

We started our day in the museum before heading towards the beaches. It was a good idea first to get some background information. We did not really like the film but apart from that the museum was very good. Just a small tip: not far from the museum (2 minutes drive, around pl de Wurzburg I think) we found a... more

Le Mémorial at Caen--what can one say? The museum itself is awesome and awe-inspiring. While the purpose of the museum is to promote peace, and it does by presenting the horrors of war in picture and film, it is also an excellent place to learn about the causes of the second world war in Europe. This was my second visit,... more

The WWII film is outstanding, and probably the best museum film I've ever seen. The museum is beautiful, and the WWII artifacts are very interesting and well shown. There was some very offensive excuse making for the Nazis with blame on the United State economy. Other nations had bad financial times, and somehow avoided the murder of millions. Lies in... more

Went to the museum several years ago with a group, and was really quite impressed (and I already knew a great deal about WWII). Movie was just super and the effects were riveting. Plan to go back this time with hubby. As other poster wrote, the food was cafeteria crummy. So, don't go for the food. more
