Not sure how many of you have visited a nuclear submarine.I did. And it was fascinating. The sub is located in the City of the Sea Museum in Cherbourg. It easily reachable by car from the city. or by foot from the ferry port (1.5 Km walk ). They permit entry till 1.5 hours prior to closing. The museum itself is... More

Cite de la Mer is a great museum dedicated to all things Oceanic - from the Nuclear Submarine, to giant aquariums to an undersea adventure 'ride', plus heaps of other things to try an interact with. We went with three other familes (8 adults and 9 kids aged 4- 8), which could have been the recipe for a disaster movie... More

Had a sneak preview on the latest attraction Titanic a Cherbourg. Looked very promising. Beautful building (art deco-ish). Also interesting: the submarines, especially the giant Redoutable. More

Allow as much time as possible to see everything in this huge complex dedicated to the deep sea. We spent nearly 4 hours with the grandchildren and even then we had to leave because it was closing time. The 3 main experiences are the voyage under the sea, the walk through a nuclear submarine and the deepest aquarium in Europe.... More

Loads to see, all the signage and information is in English as well as French, a really entertaining "visit beneath the waves" interactive experience, an unusual take on the aquarium experience, and a trip round a decommissioned nuclear submarine. Plus the chance to look out over the magnificent Cherbourg port and roads. Great shop and excellent, if rather £££ and... More

Really good venue, lovely exhibits and boy the submarine was a good trip. Good transalation services and overall would go back again. No hard sell with gimmicks but the usual typical french entertainment. Not cheap but its worth it. More

As you'd expect, it is full of in-depth information about the sea - great if you're interested and have time to take in all the interactive exhibits, not so great if you're with a young child that doesn't appreciate all there is to see. The aquarium content is not as big as you might believe from the marketing - but... More

La Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg is well worth a day. The submarine "Redoutable" is a world class attraction, and the aquariums are beautiful. Take the time to enjoy the exhibitions and spend an interesting and educational day. Great for kids as well. More

I travelled the short train journey from Caen specifically to visit La Cite de la Mer as it was recommended on TA and in my guidebook. It was a truly fascinating experience. I did not take the Marche sous la Mer tour on the advice of the lady in the ticket booth as I am a 'senior' - she advised... More
