The old city is beautiful, didn't know where to look. Had the most amazing meal on the main square in a restaurant call Le Taverna, 4 courses for €22.00.

As we live nearby we alway enjoy a walk around the old town when we visit Le Mans, it's near the fantastic food market.
Loads of good restaurants from basic plate d'jour to top class restaurants.
If in the area well worth the time to take in a very old town full of character.

The Cite Plantagenet (Old Town) is very much more than i was expecting and provided endless photo opportunities. Stylish, well maintained, the whole area (which is not enormous...but is suprisingly large) contains one medieval building after another, all so wonderfully interwoven. The old city is well preserved with a number of interesting buildings. Recommendable, as always, is the cathedral. It is a must to walk around the cobbled streets of old Le Mans and investigate the Plantagenet history. In Le Mans, people still really do live in the old city, and there are a great number of restaurants, bars and galleries...

the old town is a typical European one, but the entrance via the river Sarthe is beautiful, you go under a bridge like tunnel, and the cathedral and all old town is above you.
