The Gordges du Verdon is definately worth a detour if you visit Aixe en Provence. You will need around a day to drive through down to Nice. Stunning mountain scenery and azure blue rivers and lakes. Not to be missed. Great picnicking areas down by the river at the bottom of the gorges. More

If you can handle narrow, winding roads, then you can drive through the Gorges du Verdon. The views are really spectacular. More

For many years, my wife had suggested we visit the Gorges du Verdon also called "the French Grand Canyon". Having seen the US one, I was not sure this one was worth it. I was totally wrong!! We were lucky to visit the 3rd week of October, as the weather was gorgeous, the fall foliage was magnificent (and we are... More

Good test of driving skill and lane discipline.Too much tailgaiting by locals. Probably the best time of year to tour as no holidaying families on the roads and the autumn tree colours are fantastic! Allow yourself at least 2 days from Digne-Les-Bains along Napoleon,s route. Every thing is free if you only want to gaze in wonder. More

we preferred the Northern rim trip incl. the tour de crete from Castellane down to the Lac de Ste. Croix after lunch such that the sun shines deep into the gorge - we stopped at every parking lot with viewpoints (point sublime, belvederes, debouche, pont). The lake offers watersports (peddlers, kayaks) and camping but no restaurants. Food is good at... More

A definite highlight of the trip. The drive itself is up winding mountain roads but they're in very good condition and easy to navigate. The views all around are spectacular and there are plenty of areas to stop and take in the view. At times we missed some of the potential viewing areas as they're a mere siding on the... More

It’s about 1 to 2 hour drive north west of Nice. If you go on a weekend allow for extra time as there are typically road closers and delays for street festivals. The drive to this area is spectacular but not for the faint of heart as the cliffs are quite steep with little to no protection (guardrails) to stop... More

We have been to the gorge once before. Firstly about six years ago when we just swam in the Lac de St Croix, a stunning lake and looked down into the gorge whilst driving along the hair raising roads leading there. We knew we would have to return one day. This time we took a pedalo up into the gorge... More

This site was a true topper in our stay in Provence. We spent 2 days in the area. The first day we drove around the canyon and hiked short distances from the car. The second day we rented a kayak and paddled around Lac St. Croix. The views from the bottom are even more impressive than the ones from the... More

A must see attraction when you stay in the French Riviera. Spectacular view - similar to the Dolomites and Großglockner. PS: Watch out for motion sickness in small children! More
