We only discovered this after arriving there. We checked their website again, and found it buried in the fine print. It would be good if the closure for renovations was highlighted more - and the fact that the paintings have been relocated elsewhere in Cagnes-sur-Mer. But sadly we were on a tight schedule and couldn't see them. More

This museum is the house where Renoir lived with his family when he was an old man ( the last 12 years of his life). Besides paintings and sculptures you will see the original furniture, artist studio and different things that belonged to the artist. We had a walk in the magnificient garden among the olive trees and the flowers. More

This was Renoir's home in his later years until he passed away at a great age in 1919, and in fact he built the house himself. The charm of the place is that it still feels like the home of an artist, and you almost feel that Renoir has just slipped out on his pony and trap to go and... More

Lovely spot. This is the little farm that Renoir lived and worked in whilst in Provence. You can stand between the trees of famous paintings and recognise them, you enter his studio and see the collaboration of work he made with young artist to create sculpture. You can begin also to understand how cubism came about when you see outher... More

Cagnes-sur-Mer is a delightful village constructed on three levels – it is no wonder that the light and landscape so mesmerised the impressionist artist, Renoir. On the seaboard between Nice and Antibes is Cagnes-sur-Mer, in the hills above is Cagnes-Ville, and atop the hill is Haut-de-Cagnes. Be sure to visit the Renoir museum in the old village but stop for... More

The museum is located in Renoirs old home above Cagnes sur Mer and it is easy to get there by bus (public transpotation). For those of you going threre by car there is of course a parking lot. You should plan half a day for this visit, and don' t skimp - take the guided tour. The tour takes you... More

Visitors have surprising access to the farmhouse in which Renoir spent his final years. It's a nice, low-key museum experience, which is becoming rare anywhere these days. Even with the bus-load that arrived behind us, this October afternoon was quiet. I was able to walk up to the rope and be within a few feet of several large paintings. You... More
