It's amazing to me that Cézanne's studio stayed intact for so long after his death before it was opened for visitors. I was sorry that one can no longer see Mt. Sainte-Victoire from the studio, but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the tables, fabrics, vases, pitchers, skull, etc. that appear again and again in Cézanne's still life paintings. Atelier Cezanne was a marvel. His actual painting studio is very much the way he left it. His clothes hanging with his Knapsack ready to go at an instant to Mont St. Victoire. The actual, original still life props painted were on the back shelf waiting for the master to return. A short presentation, with two guides helped us understand... more

I have visited Cezanne's Atelier several times over the past ten years, mostly to photograph Cezanne's Garden and surrounding landscapes for a book to be published by Simon & Schuster in February 2004, entitled 'Cezanne's Gardens.'
