I would agree with other reviewers that you will be disappointed if you expect to see Matisse's major paintings. But admission is free and there are a wide variety of objects of interest as well as the Villa itself. I cannot stress enough, though, the appeal of the whole general area. This is a lovely way to spend a couple of hours. The Museum is set in a beautiful and well planned Italian style villa surrounded by park. Very spacious and not at all busy when we visited (admittedly out of season). As another reviewer mentioned the collection is "a bit thin" as it contains none of his great works. That... more

We walked up to the museum (over 2 miles from the centre) only to be met by signs saying "Closed undergoing renovation.Open again in June 07". I'm sure we missed a great attraction but it was rather anoying as it well out of the centre and we had no indication it would not be open. Still the walk did us... more

The collection may seem a bit on the thin side to some museum goers. However, one can indulge in not only the museum collection while visiting, but also in the fact that the museum is located within the gorgeous gardens of Cimiez, very near the Regina (the apartments where Matisse spent the last years of his life), as well as... more
