It's difficult to describe this place but it's one of the most amazing locales for exhibiting art that you can imagine. Spacious, stark, (think Tate modern), but you're in an actual quarry, which emphasizes the art even more. Until the end of 2009 they're featuring an audivisual show of Picasso's work interpreted. This is a must-see attraction. It’s all indoors, so if the weather is bad as it was for us, this is an even better place to be. It’s relaxing to hear wonderful music and look at Van Gogh’s work showcased in such an unusual way. more

After meeting some unknown fellow Americans (two ladies traveling alone as we were) at a wonderful hotel in St. Remy, they suggested we go to this site. Boy, were we glad we met them. Located 1 km north of Les Baux on the D27, this former limestone quarry was turned into an incredible experience of images and music. Images of artwork are projected on all the various walls and floor inside the cavernous quarry caves. The images are coordinated - some zooming in on parts of the painting.
