Walk in this area and soak up the atmosphere but take a map as the are many alleys and it is easy to miss you the highlights. Follow the tourist trail markers. More

Le Panier has been completely refurbished. it has now become a trendy place with nice "designer" stores, restaurants and cafes. Worth the visit, very close to La Charité, the beautiful museum of Marseilles. More

Rather dirty (lots of dogs....) and no special appeal whatsoever. This from someone who adores southern europe. The "nice plazas" advertised in many guidebooks turned out to be not so nice at all and without anything mentionable. Lots of run down places, but not the nice kind. And... have I mentioned the dogs? Just be careful where you step. Why... More

Even though we had a lovely B&B in the Panier district of Marseille, I would not visit Marseille again. We visited during low season and arrived Sunday. Almost everything was boarded up and there were no restaurants open for dinner. We walked around the old port and there was hardly anything open. Marseille seems stuck in time and is not... More

I was adamant I wanted to see the Panier, however in Winter it's very disappointing. A lot of places were closed and it seemed that we trekked up and down cobblestone alleyways that all looked the same with closed shutters for hours. Even the guided tour failed to impress me too much as there really wasn't a whole lot to... More

The area is undergoing renovation, in preparation also it seems of Marseille being European Cultural Capital in 2013. Only saw it by day, a Monday, around 16 - 17.00 hrs when most shops and restaurants were closed. You could feel however that lots of good things must be going on there during other moments of the day. More

Colorful and small streets that were completely desserted. We were wandering around on a Saturday afternoon. Very few shops were open and it wasn't surprising to see why as the streets were completely empty. We were hard pressed to find any other people. Seemed to have a lot of potential, but with the absence of humanity it felt pretty depressing. More

The walk in the Old Core of Le Panier was truly breath-taking. The vistas, the courtyards, the facades were truly a delight. Treat for any architect or planner. Every turn is a surprise, and holds your breath. I would advise the fellow travelers to carry a map of the route, and experience the beautiful city life at Le Panier. More
