This "Alter Schloss" is a must for all Baden-Baden guests. The visit is free and the castle is very well preserved. You can climb to the top of the castle and a nice view over the Rhin valley comes in front. We drove there, but you can also rent a bike to climb. Don't forget to stop for a bite... More

We decided to hike up to the ruins in an effort to make make amends for the amount of delicious German food we had been eating. It is possible to buy a map from the tourist information centre (which we should have done as we took the LONG way! It took an hour to walk up and about 30 minutes... More

Not sure why this place doesn't get more attention in tourist information, city guide doesn't take you there, but you can view it from parts of the old town and if you have the chance, and as it is quite a hike, a car, please take the time to visit. You will be rewarded with some of the best preserved... More

I hiked from Baden Baden up to the castle ruins. The hiking paths were shown on the Stadtplan map available at the tourist center (Trinkhalle). The castle is in ruins but is an amazing example of a medieval castle: no Disneyworld feel here. You are allowed to go everywhere in the castle (with ladders/stairs provided to allow you to go... We went to explore these wonderful ruins one afternoon and had an excellent time. You can hike up if you wish, or you can do a short drive. As we were short on time we drove up. There is parking available. We walked all around and found the views of Baden Baden spectacular. Make sure to check the the Wind... More

Great castle ruins with amazing views of Baden-Baden. Why these do not get more attention, at least in English-language guidebooks, is a mystery to me. This was definitely worth the couple of hours it took to hike up, look around, and hike back down! My wife & I are fast hikers, so we made this walk in less time than... More

We hiked to Hohenbaden from the city center of Baden Baden. It was about an hour and a half hike up to the top and about an hour hike down. The meadows near the new castle are beautiful and the forested areas of the hike are as well. The castle take about an hour to explore and you can park... More

We visited Burg Hohenbaden the morning after a big snowdump. The stairs were icey and dangerous but from the top one had fantastic views of the Black Forest and we had the entire castle to ourselves! I would recommend this ruin because it is so large and extensive; there is a lot to explore here. More
