If you're going to see whatever the special exhibit is, spend a couple of extra Euros to see the main collection. Some good pieces from a variety of artists - but the highlight for me was the nice collection of Picassos they had on view. More

I too was treated poorly by the guards. It was such an odd experience! My son pointed to something and a guard rushed over to stop him. We went on a slow, cold fall day and so not many people were there. We were told to go to the entrance to get a photographers pass to take pictures. I was... More

A very fine collection of art ranging from medieval to contemporary with highlights such as Cranach, Tiepolo, Canaletto, Rembrandt, Rubens, Friedrich, Pissarro, Renoir, Manet, Monet, Picasso to name but a few treasures, along the lesser known artists. A stop at the lovely café for a delicious and quick lunch in a serene Christmas atmosphere completed an extremely enjoyable visit. More

Museum visits are for me on cloudy days but it was fun to visit again. The museum has expanded over the years and has the old original building from the king to the modern buildings of the last decade. Depending on ones interest direction from modern to Renaissance there is a little of everything. Clean, organized and helpful staff plus... More

There seemed to be a new museum building attached to an older building, but we could not figure out how to get in, to the other building, where the elevator was, etc. We were there in August and my local relative was upset that there was no special exhibition. To me the collection seemed very disconnected. One period of art... More

I thought this would be a small provincial museum where we could kill an hour. It is a very large, world-class collection housed in two very different but equally interesting buildings, and I HIGHLY recommend it. More

we'd just visited the alte and neue pinakotec in munchen with their superb collections and very positive approach to visitors, so stuttgart needed to be very good to compare - it is a fine building, and has some very fine paintings but it is far from visitor-friendly. we had difficulty even finding the way in, there were virtually no seats... The Staatsgalerie Stuttgart is a really well equipped and organized museum. It is super easy to spend a couple of hours there which is good since the weather in January is usually not the best in Stuttgart. The entrance fee is fair and if you get a guided tour grab this chance: good entertainment and education! More
