Kids will love donning the miners' clothing, riding on the train, going down slides, taking a boat ride across the salt lake, heading back up on the funicular, and hopping on the train again. There was a small crowd waiting for the mines to be open at 11:30am in the winter. We had a great time! more

If you are in the Salzburg area and it's raining.. Take the day and go on an underground tour of the Salt Mines at Bad Durrnberg. Oldest salt mine in the world, interesting day. more
We had a great trip to the salt mines at Berchtesgaden this summer (2005). It was extremely well organised, as one would expect in Germany! First one needs to don miners' clothing over one's own clothes - white baggy cotton trousers, a blue top, and a leather apron, worn back to front. Why? We'll see later. Next is the train... more
