Just returned from a week in Garmisch Germany. Spent a few days skiing in the bowl like ski area atop the Zugspitze. Plenty of powder with spectacular view of the surrounding mountain tops, weather was sunny and crisp atop the mountain. Trails were well groomed, though plenty of opportunity to ski off trail through fresh powder (ski area above tree... more

We took the regional train from Munich (Bayern ticket: Euro 28 for up to 5 people), which got us there in 1 1/2 hours. From there, we followed the directions in the train station to the Zugspitzbahn, where we bought tickets to get up to the Zugspitze. We took the train and got off at Eibsee, where we boarded the... more

While in Interlaken, Switzerland, we had planned on going on the Jungfraubahnen up to the Swiss Alps. That trip requires 3 trains and 187 Swiss Francs per person and it rained the entire time we were there. So we decided not to waste the money because you couldn't see the mountains anyway. But one country away in Garmisch,Germany, we rode... more

A friend and I took the cable car up the moutainside in early Oct. Although she is afraid of heights, she did fine by sitting down and not looking out the window. It is amazing to reach this height without having to hike or climb to get there! There is a small, melting glacier you can walk to, a quaint... more

Train ride up on the cogwheel train went through beautiful areas and the scenery was fantastic. Got to Zugspitze, rented skis, rentals sucked (as they always do, but wasn't going to drag my skis with me from MN) people in rental shop were unpleasant. I went in early April and didn't expect the snow to be perfect. It wasn't. Quite... more

We had not planned to go, but our 11 year old wanted to go up the mountain. We drove to Garmisch from Oberammergau to the Zugspitzbahn parking area (remember to have exact change in Euros to pay the fee and put the ticket in your window). Two adults and 1 child is 103€ and definitely worth it. The price includes... more

Unfortunately for us, the day on our trip that we planned to visit the Zugspitze ended up being a rainy day :o( The Weather below was muggy and humid and off and on showers. We drove all the way from Munich hoping for better weather when we arrived. We took the Cog Train to the Cable Car and went all... more

We went up to Zugspitze around Christmas and it was pretty crowded with everyone skiing so we had to wait awhile in line, but once we got to the top it was amazing! It was a beautiful, clear view and all you could see for miles were mountains. Everything was covered in snow, and it jwas ust amazing. If you're... more

As I was there in winter and spring.....Both times of year are absolutely spectacular. Skiing and winter sports are incredible....of course. Places to site see , eat , drink, and dance are out of this world. The people ,(townies), are more than accommodating . If there in the spring , make sure to hike , mountain bike ride at Aibsee.... more

I've been traveling a lot in Europe and have seen some interesting and beautiful places thus far, however none of them compare to Zugspitze! We arrived to Zugspitze early Monday morning and the ticket sale area was practically empty. When traveling up to Zugspitze you have two options - 1. take the Eibsee-Seilbahn (cable car) all the way up or... more
