We bought a combo ticket to visit both Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein Castles. Our intent was to visit only Neuschwanstein, but were pleasantly surprised to find 2 castles within walking distance of each other! Hohenschwangau is absolutely gorgeous! Much of the furniture and decor is still original, and the views from the windows are absolutely amazing! Even though our tour guide... More

We purchased the combo ticket and saw Hohenschwangau first, which I would recommend as it gives a feel for Ludvig's growing up years. It would have been something to spend summers in this castle as a child! More

This is a private castle and it not as grand as the Neuschwanstein Castle but this is still worth a visit. The history of this location is noteworthy and most of the furnishings are still at this location. The climb up to this location is not too bad but you do have to go up some pretty steep grades if... We got our tickets on-line before coming to Germany - there’s a small service charge, but given how popular the castle is and that all the tours are timed, we recommend paying the fee (you just order the tickets, you don’t pay until you arrive.) If you are seeing both Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau (which you should!), you can order your... More

Original everything...furniture, floors, fittings. Great example of the early-mid 1800's German antique...though the neogothic throughout seems to be a little early, but it was explained to me that "Max" was a little ahead of his time. A must see and not an "also see" while at Neuschwanstein. If you are able, recommend going up the stairs to the castle then... More

I had been to Neuschwanstein before but not this one. It might not look as grand from the outside, but the inside is really interesting! Totally different than other castles I've seen. It was a private residence and had a very cozy feel with great frescos! And hidden doors in walls-who doesn't love that! More

If you buy the combo ticket you must and there's a good reason to see where Ludgwig grew up before going to Neuschwanstein. The times estimated on the travel signposts are for a very slow walk, maybe pushing a stroller. We did it in at least 10 min less than stated. More

Once again, no photos allowed. Lovely little castle, great to visit, tours are brief but still quite interesting. Worth a day trip to see both castles. More

You cannot miss Hohenschwangau Castle. First visit that one and then visit Neuschwanstein. The location is beautiful. Visit very well organized. More
