This is one of Germany's best opera houses. The musical quality of the performances is usually at a very high level, but the staging of the productions is very uneven. Almost all productions have a modern staging (some would say Euro-trash). Quite a few of the modernizations work very well (I saw an absolutely brilliant Wozzeck last year), but some... More

Recently saw Figaro and Kennlyside sang the Count Almaviva, splendid! The people visiting are typically Bourgoise Munich, very conservatively dressed, and women typically equipped with highclass skirts and robes, this is... More

The theatre is very beautiful. We were there to see a guest company but there seems to be a good programme. It was a wonderful experience to see a performance there and I want to go back! More

It's a modern rebuild, completed in 1963, of the previous opera house which was destroyed in bombing during WWII. Although many great operas were first performed here (especially Wagner), what you see today is not what it once was. More

I've been to quite a few opera theatres in my life, and this one is notable for its sheer space of the audience area as a whole, which doesn't mean that the opera house allows too many people in. More

There is a backstage tour (in German, but that doesn`t really matter) which is great fun. The Opera itself is magnificent. More
