In 1521 Jacob Függer the Rich founded this social settlement for Augsburgers in need. The yearly rent nowadays is still the equivalent of a Rhenish Guilder that is € 0,88. The tenants must be Catholic, have lived in Augsburg at lease for two years, and be poor without being in debt, and apart from paying the € 088 yearly rent... More

It was nice to see how clean and well kept the little apartments are. This proyect should be an example for so many countries that do not try to help the persons with low incomes. We did not get a tour and wondered how the people who live there are chosen. More

I think I've missed the point of this "attraction", other than that my entry fee probably helps to pay for the upkeep of this residential facility, where residents pay 0.88 euros a year to live. There was nothing much to see, just rows of apartment blocks, a WWII air raid shelter that was like a creepy dungeon, a "model apartment"... More

Beautiful all times of the year, really interesting displays. A modern house, a wartime bunker, a museum about the Fugger family. Just really good value for money if you take the time to look round the whole Fuggerei and all the displays and the show homes. Local residents are always about. More

Függerei is a kind of walled “town within a town”, and has retained its medieval atmosphere. Really great is the Markuskirche, built in 1581 and rebuilt after its destruction in 1944. More

this is a very easy to do, self guided, attraction in Ausburg. As the oldest social settlement in the world, it is very interesting to see how it has been maintained and developed since 1521. Still operating, you have an opportunity to view the inside of a house in original construction, extensively preserved, together with a more recent fully furnished... More

I left Munich and ventured on my own to Augsburg.. I took the Regionalbahn and with 40mins I was at the main station.. Information are a bit sketchy as to how to get to the main sites, but with my list of places to see (from tripadvisor) I ventured north of the Mainstation.. I came upon the Rathaus and then... More

We didn't know what to expect and took four kids with us, ages 5, 9, 9, and 12 and they were entertained and remained interested the whole walk through the community. It's so beautiful inside and the walk through the museum which was the bomb shelter during WWII really amazed the kids. The kids liked to walk through the old... More

The Fuggerei is the oldest social housing development currently standing. It's neat to see that alone, but it's also got a museum dedicated not only to the housing development but also to the Fugger family. As this is right in town, in a city that the Fuggers all but owned for a couple hundred years, it is important and very... More
