Visited as part of a European River cruise. Was one of the most memorable, interesting and beutiful palaces on the whole two week cruise. Also went up to the Medival castle which is also very interesting (although very spartan compared to the other) -worth the walk up the hill! (A nice walk) more

The Residenz is absolutely Würzburg's top tourist site. Inside this palatial palace is awe aspiring architect with laborious detail from the Baroque era. Fans of Versailles in France will drool over The Residenz as it equally if not more interesting. It is an eye candy for all those who are fans of luxurious excess of the European Monarch. Not to... more

I have been to Wuerzburg many times and always considered it very beautiful and worth spending time there.....one of the city's highlights is definitely the Residence....a 'sister' of the Dresden Zwinger.....Tiepolo's ceiling painting of the continents in the Residence is most impressive as he more or less painted it all from imagination and narration...and got it right!!! Stunning...and a must... more

An excellent overview what happens when you're the Prince and the Bishop rolled into one. Power and money can certainly build a beautiful palace. Well worth the tour. more

This attraction is best in the spring time. The gardens are the best and it's free! Walk over to the winery accross the street or go inside for just a few euros. Love this place! more

I lived in Würzburg for a year as an exchange student. I visited the Residenz frequently; to enjoy both the indoor exhibit rooms and the outdoor gardens. The late Baroque (Rococo) interior is breathtaking. Be sure to get the guided tour to learn the full importance of all of the art around you. The ceiling frescoes are amazing. Most unbelievable... more

There is a beautiful wine tasting at the Residenz, in the cellars below. It lasts about 2-1/2 hours with an initial glass of champagne given out as a guide discusses the cellar history in an atmosphere glowing with candlelight from every wooden vat. Then it's a sit-down affair, with about 6 WHITE wines introduced. A brotzeit platter (bread and coldcuts)... more

Rick Steve's lists Residenz as one of his 3* attractions, like Neuschwanstein. I would argue that it's nice, but It's not that great. However, when I went through it I was more rushed than I would have preferred, because I didn't have enough change to put in the parking meter!! The gardens looked beautiful but we didn't get to enjoy... more

I recently went to the Residenz with an exchange program to Germany. Besides the fact that I love Wurzburg, this is a definite place to visit while touring Bavaria. An excellent specimen of Baroque architecture, a "spinoff" of Versailles, the Residenz is absolutely gorgeous and in good condition, although bombed during WWII. The guides speak very good English and will... more
