This is the centre of Berlin. Berlin is a very interesting city and each year the number of visitors keeps growing. It has many attractions, great restaurants and is both a young and old city. However, all vivitors that come to berlin end up at Brandenburg Tor. It is where east meets west. It has been restored and looks fabulous.... More

It is located on the western edge of Pariser Platz just inside the former East Berlin. It now stands as a symbol of the rerunification of teh two sides of Germany. The gateway to the Acropolis in Athens, the Brandenburg gate was the first Greek revival neoclasscial structure in Berlin. The Grandenburg Gate is 65 ft high 213 ft wide,... More

It is not possible to skip this as a tourist in Berlin, so I will make this short. It's massively gorgeous and all the tours start or stop by here. All of them! I walked from Alexanderplatz to Schlosspark and there were tons of things along the way. This is where I stopped at Starbucks and took a people watching... More

From the point of view of History this is a must see. However, the whole area has become almost like a circus, there are all kind so street actors etc. Another thing you have to remember is that there has been much repair, so much of Berlin was heavily damaged during WWII in air raids. The history of what this... More

I have been to Berlin twice, and the first time my husband and I went to the gate at sunset. Even though it was mid-June, and there were tons of tourists around the city during the day, it was almost deserted at night. It was a very romantic spot to revel in the Berlin. I revisited this month and went... More

Awesome in size and on a nice day, it is good to sit on a bench on the mall and just reflect on all the history that took place at this site. More

This iconic gateway was impressive when I visited Berlin before the Wall came down, but now there is a proliferation of rather tacky touristy stalls, which detracts from its grandeur. Indeed one senses they demonstrate a deliberate desire to prove that imperial ambition is no longer part of the Berlin psyche. More

If you were alive during the cold war, you must walk underneath the gate. It will make you cry. More

I was in Berlin (with the US Army) on August 13, 1961 when the Berlin Wall went up. The revered symbol of this city, the Brandenburger Tor, is now over-run with vendors, beggars, shysters and people. It was a disappointment to me. It is still a "must see" for visitors but, don't expect too much. More
