Under major reconstruction, with performances at the Schiller Theatre, this will surely be one of the Greatest Opera Houses in the world More

Beautiful performance of Tosca in a beautiful venue... the State Opera House is closed for renovation for a couple of years and so the venue was in Charlotteberg. Having not paid a lot of attention I went to 'Deutsch Ober' U-bahn station and then to the Deutsch Ober building... which is not the Schiller Theatre where the performance actually is.... More

Daniel Barenboim conducted Wagner's Tristan und Isolde. The opera house is under renovation, so they used the Schiller Theatre. I expected this theatre to be too compact for Wagner, but in fact I was so much overwhelmed by the performance! I have seen Barenboim three times before. The first concert was his recital. The second and the third concerts were... More

Even though i had tickets for a ballet show at the Staat Oper in Berlin, the printed tickets were written in German and English but on the English partition was not a notice-warning that the shows are taking place not at the well known building of the Staat Oper at the Gendarmermarkt-Unden der Linden street .When there we saw the whole... If you are an opera lover, this is one of the best in the world. This opera house is always attacked during wars, but it is an important place for the Germans, and they are very proud of it. As in February, it is under construction, so there is not much photo opps. However, the Bebel Platz is right here,... More

We went to Berlin for four days, and saw two operas - The Magic Flute, and Abduction from the Seraglio. Our primary reason for visiting Berlin was to see these two productions, and we haven't been disappointed. Both were wonderful evenings, with superlative singing, innovative direction making imaginative use of Staatsoper's forced residence in the intimate Schiller Theatre; outstanding orchestra... More

The Staatsoper on Unter den Linden (old East Berlin) is being refurbished, and the Schiller Theatre on Bismarckstrasse (old West Berlin) is standing in as a venue. Great building! Quite amazing 1950s (?) facade and spacious interior. We needn't have eaten early - the pre-performance offer on canapes and pretzels (not to mention drinks) would put practically any theatre in... I went in March 2011 to see "Così fan tutte" by Mozart and it was great fun, nice scenery, excelent sopranos and tenors, very nice teather even if Staatsoper is closed and it was performed at Shiller theater which is a bit far from the center, easy access by U-bahn. Be aware the show beguns at 19.00!!! More
