This was way more touristy and not nearly as 'nice' as we expected....crowded and just a bit 'over the top' in terms of tourist orientation.....also, quite a journey to get there, and once you're there you need a bike as it's quite spread out....from central Berlin you need about 6 or 7 hrs minimum to do the whole thing (to/from... We took the S7 train from Alexander Plaz for €6,80 and we arrived around 40 minutes later. Then we took the hop on- hop off bus for €15 each and we took the tour of Potsdam. Let me just tell you that its a fairytale city! Filled with palaces and villas, one would assume that its like a museum city... More

The gardens are glorious especially with spring colors, ponds and monuments. Potsdam abounds with castles, villas and scenery. It is well worth a visit of at least a day but better if you spend a few days there. More

Getting to Potsdam via the S7 train from Berlin couldn't be easier. Once in Potsdam, very little effort is made to make the visit easy. Why isn't there a shuttle bus that makes the circuit among the various venues? Instead, we had to take a cab from Sans Souci to Cecilienhof. Then a bus back to the rail station, with... More

good guided tour of Sans Souci, which was very interesting. Unfortunately we couldn't get into the kitchens or picture gallery because our party had not been issued with individual tickets, which we then discovered were necessary! Nice formal gardens and a working windmill which sells flour. More

Another of these "we need to see it" things. The palace is good but Vharlottenburg New Museum is better IMHO. More

We only had time for half day excursion to Potsdam but I would highly recommend a full day there. Lots of interesting buildings and gardens to explore (since our stay was so short we didn't pay to go in the buildings). I would love to go back someday and spend some time at the palaces and see the city. Considering... More

The Potsdam gardens are very well maintained and vast. Exploring them by walking takes many days, by bus you don't see enough and can not appreciate the atmosphere. By bike - although you may only bike on certain routes - it is a perfect experience. We visited early in May, the best period with trees showing fresh, young leaves and... More
